“When
Radio Was” returns us to a time when families

crystal, listening intently as their favorite voices
wafted through the air creating vibrant pictures
that turned into vivid movies in the mind. The

inside the body of Sam Spade, be saved by the Lone
Ranger, or share the stage with George Burns
and
Gracie Allen transports the listener into what
is truly unique about the radio experience. These
shows
featured the top stars of every existing medium
during a time when being heard on the radio was
the top rung on the ladder of fame. Cary Grant,
Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra and others used radio
as
a creative outlet to showcase their vast array
of talent. Legendary characters from Dragnet,
The Shadow,
Superman and many more were born on the radio and
it’s as exciting listening today as it was
then—even the commercials are entertaining!

Fame inductee and multimedia legend Stan Freberg
as the host of “When Radio Was.” Stan
Freberg is known as the last network radio comedian
in America and is a prominent performer on many
of the programs heard on “When Radio Was.”
